When I was a teenager and was first starting to question my faith in God, and the human soul, here is one of the conundrums I faced: What if I sustained head trauma that permanently altered my brain. Either my behavior or intelligence was altered and as a result, also my personality. If I died, would my soul have the personality and concerns of me before the head trauma or after. If I was normal before, but mentally retarded (or whatever the current P.C. term is) what would I be in heaven? If I was neither, what's the point? Anyway, that is one of the things that vexed me as I descended into the abyss.

That is my experience.
I fell in 87 and awoke in 88, a very salvador dali experience. It had been fall, but was now inexplicably and impossibly, spring.

I had a MILD edema, back then not worth surgical risk, a wait and see attitude prevailed. So I am told that for about three months I was a walking talking eating shitting pissing PAIN IN THE ASS, repleat with mood swings and a very very short memory.

By that point I had evolved from a believer to a loose deist and was then confronted with "Where was "I" these last months, which led to me questioning why I assumed God, and then sought evidence for that.
Straw that broke the camels back.

I have a TBI now, lost 25% off my intel tests, all in multitasking. So I get overwhelmed and confused by chaos, but am more or less ok doing single tasks. I do neuroplasticity training all the time through fgaming to prevent any further loss, but was twenty two years too early for those new nuero understandings to be of huge benefit to me.

You don't have to have head trauma. People often change considerably during the course of their lives for any number of reasons. So, if you go to heaven to which age of personality do you get restored? 18 or 88?

Perhaps we can ask the question, where does consciousness reside?

A brain injury only affects the mechanism, unless consciousness is generated by the physical brain.

We know that the brain is a responder to stimulus.

Is the brain who we are?

Yes. I think so

You are not alone, that has been a question asked by wise people about theism for a long time. And most of them also concluded that it made nonsense of the whole thing.
