Many new members say that. However, it's been in place for as long as this website has existed and seems to be working quite well - the intention is to keep scammers, spammers and trolls out and, although the occasional one does manage to sneak in, there are far fewer of them here than on any other free website of this type that I've ever used.

@Godlessintexas Don't worry about it. Most users who have been here since the early days and therefore presumably must enjoy the place, really don't care at all about points whereas the majority of those who seemed to think it was some sort of game and wanted to be the first to reach Level 8 or 9 have vanished. You've reached Level 2 already, thus proving you're probably neither a bot, a troll nor a creep, and can now interact more with other users. Hang around and enjoy it; there are interesting people and conversations here.
