For the men on site. Agree or disagree?

"Writing for conservative website The Federalist, he seems to think that violence is what man was made for — and real men embrace that fact:"

Violence is based in fear, no man was made for fear, we were made from love, out of love, to love and to be loved. 'Real men'?....please, real men imo do not give into fear, violence, hate, but instead are patient, loving, kind and gentle.

I don't entirely agree with your ideas but do agree that a real man can be true to himself without pretensions. I read an interesting article years ago about how men AND women treat male and female babies and tots very differently, behaviorally and nurturing. One example given was crying where a girl might be comforted and a boy not so much; also that both sexes played rougher with boy babies than with female babies. Is this type of innate behavior unchangeable or not? Is it the same for other kinds of cultures and why?

I don't mean to say that men should act like women, but nor should they act like thoughtless and reckless barbarians either imo, If there was a 'god' it would be quite androgynous, equally both male and female....once again, imo.

I read many years ago about two Amazon stone age tribes. When there is a disagreement and they as a group cannot come to terms, each tribe picks a champion and repairs to a clearing. The two champions fight, not to the death but until one is down and stays down, thus leaving the other and their tribe the victor. Now this was some years ago and I don't know if their ways have changed; but I think they were/are more civilized than us!

We need to have people (and I guess men will usually be in the majority here) who can use violence when it is really needed. I'm thinking particularly about policing. But it is certainly possible to be a 'real man' without it. There are many non-violent men whose 'manliness' is not in doubt.

This Be The Verse
BY PHILIP LARKIN
They fuck you up, your mum and dad.
They may not mean to, but they do.
They fill you with the faults they had
And add some extra, just for you.

But they were fucked up in their turn
By fools in old-style hats and coats,
Who half the time were soppy-stern
And half at one another’s throats.

Man hands on misery to man.
It deepens like a coastal shelf.
Get out as early as you can,
And don’t have any kids yourself.

This is cynical, but oh so real except where would we be without kids?

Civilization began when Man first hurled an insult instead of a stone.
No one was made to be violent, and it is a delusion that some men choose, because courage is required when a solution is needed.

This is wrong on so many levels, it's difficult to know where to start.

I know a guy who takes care of the children and the house while his wife works. He's as non-violent as they come, yet ... he's a real man, and my daughter is married to him and thinks so, too.
