All this talk of Scientology makes me think I am the only one here who hasn't tried it.

Quite a lot of new members have said exactly the same thing. However, the main difference you'll notice is that it's very easy to move up through the first few levels here, which allows you to have greater interaction with other people here. You might also notice that while doing so you encounter far fewer scammers, spammers, trolls and the sort of men who just want to shout down any woman who dares to express an opinion - and that's the real reason behind the points and levels system: a new user who just wants to cause trouble has very limited scope to do so, and those who persist and move up to slightly higher levels (and are thus able to send private messages and post in forums without prior approval) are rapidly spotted and removed. It works, and it allows membership of this site to remain free - and, if you've had similar experiences of social media as many other women, I think you'll find this place refreshingly free of misogynist bullshit compared to Twitter, Facebook and so on.

Yes but there is no charge, and the points system does a good job keeping the trolls, scam artists and time wasters out. Welcome and enjoy the site, check out the groups if you have time, there is something for everyone.

Levels are meaningless.. it's merely an indicator of a person's activity and participation in the community...

just ignore it. just participate and enjoy the site and stuff. all that junk takes care of itself in no time. welcome.

The scale is just to encourage members to be active, nothing else. I wouldn't read too much into it.
