I once talked to a family member who tried to equate the word 'faith' with 'truth' and when I told him that's not the same thing and that he knows that, he just kept arguing the same position. Self-brainwashing insanity! I'm so glad I no longer think like that anymore! Dishonesty is rampant in christianity.

Dishonesty is rampant in all religions. It amazes me that even those experienced theologians, priests, etc., who also come to the realization that there is no God, still keep on perpetuating the myth as they don't know what else to do with their lives. I have heard many religious folk argue the 'faith and truth' point and they normally end up saying that only God is the absolute truth in the universe. Where they get this idea from is beyond me. If you ask them they have no answer, just that its in the buybull. As an atheist I often find it quite hard to be respectful or acknowledge religious beliefs, ceremonies, etc. Once the veil of religion has been pierced it is impossible to fix it.

the buybull... I like that, thats pretty good!

I think you'll find that those who have no other argument will stick with it even if they've been proven wrong. Too few people are willing to accept that their position is flawed, so they fall back to old arguments no matter how bad they are.

I was a JW for nearly 40 years and they call their religion “The Truth.” Well as in “1984,” their truth is a lie but they honestly believe it. I guess that’s why now, using the word “truth,” means a lot to me as it should be the opposite of false or falsehood. We now live in a world of alt-everything and I guess all we can do is fight back every way we can to get some semblance of words meaning what they are supposed to. Maybe by just asking what they think words mean and work from there could get a foundation in a debate. Dictionaries are useful tool that the religious don’t have much use for but they are good tools for us.

christian thought operates on a proto-rational level, and in domains that sane people wouldn't really understand.

Pretty sure faith is just an assumption without evidence.

Yes, lying is bad.

Yes, they do it often.
