Doing your job, while it may not end up correctly, doesn't qualify as shooting yourself in the foot. The downside to ignoring a president who says and thinks he can do whatever he wants without any check and balance, is creating a dictatorship. At a minimum, refusing to turn over documents and preventing witnesses from testifying is obstruction of congress. Open and shut. The fact that republicans, threatened by trump that they will lose his support and republican purse strings if they impeach him, and therefore not upholding their oath to the Constitution, will not convict him, should, under our 3 branch of government system of checks and balances, be shooting themselves in the foot.
Because of the impeachment, the Democrats have no chance of winning the 2020 presidential election, and might lose control of the House. I would call that "shooting themselves in the foot".
Losers' consent is a necessary attribute of a function democracy. The GOP rejected losers' consent when Obama was elected. The Dems did the same with the election of DJT.
@PBuck0145 well it's nice of you to just proclaim it. Your answer is not surprising because you have no defense to his acts. If you understood the constitution you'd know that it allows for the impeachment of the president--it's called a check and balance and has nothing to do with consenting to who won. Unless and until you address my point about at least obstruction of congress we have nothing to talk about. Just keep that blind eye going.
@PBuck0145 ahhh no defense again, not surprising. Also surprising you didnt start your post out with "people are saying" that catch phrase that works with people of your belief. Here's a soft ball for you...under your made up theory of "loser's consent" it follows that when the party of the people impeached clinton it was because they did not concede that he won the election right? Best of luck with that
