Conscious but not God

It’s a good article about universal consciousness—thanks.

We are not talking about anything supernatural here, rather an aspect of nature that is not understood. It might be a mistake to equate universal consciousness with God.

I consider universal consciousness to be the most likely scenario because the concept resolves some deep questions about personal identity. Also, the idea has been espoused by numerous prominent physicists. I find the idea very intriguing and exciting.

Good point.
It would depend how you define god.
If as the 'governing principle' in the sense natural physical laws govern life, so too consciousness might govern the mind (or the like), then it might be useful.
Not as a distinct 'entity' who bosses us around and metes out rewards and punishments, of course, but as a tangible 'thing' which defines the extent of, and limits to, our freedoms, beyond which we encounter resistance.
After all, natural physical laws limit our physical freedom...why should our consciousness not have limits as well?
It could be postulated some men then gave anthropomorphic characteristics, human emotions, thoughts and motives to something which is in reality a purely impersonal force of nature, no different in quality from electromagnetism, say, or the speed of light.

@Storm1752 Well said.

Complicating the issue is the fact that we don’t truly understand the concept of existence, and we don’t really know what we ourselves are. We don’t understand conscious awareness, which underlies our every experience.

Consciousness does not = sentience or even awareness

Possibly.

Just a question; I've read the article twice and it still makes no sense but, hey, if all these scientists think it's absurdity is not obvious, who am I to laugh?

You are perfectly entitled to laugh, not to do so just because there are so many, would be an example of the 'vox populi fallacy'. Enjoy.

@Fernapple It's just too abstract and obtuse a concept to laugh. But thanks!

Doesn’t really matter. It is what it is.

The entire universe is the entire universe.

Metaphorically, yes.
Literally? I’ll wait for conclusive evidence.
