Just watched the original Twilight Zone episode "Monsters are due on Maple Street" and it reminds me of our current society. Hints are dropped of outsiders amongst us and immediately suspicions abound on who they might be - with anyone who is a little different coming under suspicion. Some (Charlie played convincingly by Jack Weston) fan the flames - currently played by Trump. But other immediately play along (his Republican supporters) until violence breaks out. All this orchestrated by Aliens who just planted the seeds and watched as our society turns on itself - played currently by Putin?
Where is Rod Serling when we need his insights in the closing comments:
"The tools of conquest do not necessarily come with explosions and fallout. There are weapons that are simply thoughts, attitudes, prejudices to be found only in the minds of men [OK this was a while ago - should be people]. For the record, prejudices can kill and suspicion can destroy and a thoughtless, frightened search for a scapegoat has a fallout all of its own for the children and the children yet unborn. And the pity of it is that these things cannot be confined to the 'Twilight Zone.'"
