I accepted the existence claim of the Christian God until I was 30. That makes me an ex-Christian. I am now a thorough going atheist.

I now know the Bible for what it is: a pack of lies written by psychopaths intent on controlling the masses. (Joseph Stalin, anybody?)

A lot of us are former Christians. I would say the percentage of former Christians would be higher among atheists who care to debate or discuss the topic. The only other motivation is that the person has been negatively impacted by religion in some other personal way, or has made the connection between the creeping horror show that America has become, with the evangelical Christians.

I've noticed that atheists who do not fit into such categories are pretty indifferent to Christianity, and often fairly uninformed about it, as well.

It is often said that the best way to make an atheist, is to tell someone to read the bible.

My experience here says most (not all) members here were at least raised in religious homes. Many were practicing adults for a while.

I think generally agnostics and atheists have a wider academic and study base. If you study religion you soon discover that the premise upon which religion is based is flawed.

Its interesting to see how different ideologies have developed upon on this premise.

Christians are generally informed by Christians, which utilises circular referencing, and doesn't help in the advancement of knowledge.
