While I was watching a political talk show today, they were discussing gun control. Somewhere in the conversation the term "God given right" was mentioned in reference to gun ownership. I had heard the phrase many times before. But this time I stopped and wonedered " Where in the F**** did they get that idea?" Even for batshit crazy religious nuts, that seems pretty batshit crazy. Is there any possible little thread from the bible or anywhere that they could use to weave that notion? Or did they just 100% reach around behind them and pull it out?

Because they think they have the "God given" right to do whatever they please.

Because they believe in Manifest Destiny they believe that since God gave the Europeans America he gave them all the rights necessary to take it from the indians. I'ts just a guess how they would tie it together because like you said it is bat shit crazy.
