Alan Watts. (as I understand)

It is a mistake to always watch your flaws in hopes of improvement, for if you are flawed so are your observations.

Watching your thoughts is just another thought. Think?

I agree, focusing on the negative is just causing more negative feelings and after all thats what we exsperiance is thought, its all thought!but their are tools n ones tool box that if used right can help, But you got to have the right tools, Cause if all you got is a hammer in that box all your problems, feelings, will be delt and felt with the blow of that hammer!

Sometimes I find comfort in his observation that there is no bad arrangemnet of constellations or the zig and zag of a coastline. It just is. While this is not a reason to eschew any self-improvement, it reminds us that we are who we are because of those things that make us unique.

While it is true we are all flawed, we can also use the shared observations of others for verification. If I watch myself and see a flaw, and then ask others, friends and family, co workers "Do you too see this? And if so, Can you help me overcome this?"

Few of us live in a vaccum.

Key word is "always". We are all flawed in someway or the other, we all have biases. While "always" obsessing about these flaws is nonsensical, I think it makes pragmatic sense to change ourselves in ways that we may find beneficial.

It is almost like saying that there is no sense in being virtuous, just, or moral if you don't know what virtue, justice or morality are.

There are some good Utube 'videos' now where you can listen to Alan Watts taking. He was a very good speaker and easy to listen to.
