I grew up with "Blue Laws". What a pain in the ass, couldn't even but a can of beer on Sundays in my old neighborhood in NYC. This horse shit probably still exists in some states.
Let's examine the etiology of this nutty belief. Christ rose from the dead on a Sunday and the Bible says there has to be a "day or rest." I get mad just thinking about it. If I rose from the dead I would have hired a marching band and pranced into Jerusalem with noisy fanfare and a horde of pissed-off angels. Instead Christ appeared only to his friends and he already had them in his pocket.
So now, 2000 years later I have to change my behavior to accommodate these wacky beliefs. Freedom of religion my ass.

Nothing describes the feeling of a Sunday during that time than Kristofferson's song "Sunday Morning Coming Down". Christmas day almost has that same felling as the streets are empty.
