Feel free to reply to any comment by clicking the "Reply" button.Maybe the Latin words are "biblical" but most of those rabbits are metaphors of common people triumphant over rulers or invaders....rabbits are fast breeders and a favorite easy to hunt local food source also.....notice how rabbits are portrayed swift and capable while opponents are slow riding snails

Hares were/are representative of fertility hence the Easter Bunny and by association, young women.
As such they were considered a temptation to medieval clerics.
There are a few folk songs collected relating to woman and the hare.
This is a reasonably well known rendition by Steeleye Span although there are songs with different lyrical content.

They are considered Hares not rabbits!
It seems that the White Hare was a symbol of retribution for punishment and crimes committed against women and the poor, that is a loose interpretation of mythologies from around the planet through the ages!!!
