I think I'm going to be an oddball on this site. Oh, well, here goes. Not like I've not been an oddball most of my life. I was not raised in a church so I don't have the really bad experiences that some of you must have had. I never believed in "God". It just never made sense to me. I moved to the South when I was 22, for graduate school. So I tried to believe as I wanted to fit in. I got involved with a 12 step program when I was 33. I struggled against the higher power concept as HP meant God. I realized it didnt. I have come to believe in the power in the universe. Not the old man in the sky. I worked at a Treatment facility for alcoholics and addicts. My co-workers knew my struggles and would send the clients to me to talk to when they struggled with that part of the program. I heard a preacher once liken God to electricity. He said, "I can't see him, I don't know how he works but if I plug into it him wonderful things happen. To me there is some source of energy in the universe that we can use. I know when I am in tune with that energy my life goes better. I've called it "God" when I was living in the South. Now I simply say the universe. Works for me.
I used to feel that way as well, but not any longer. The more reading I did, the less I could believe in a mysterious force. But if it works for you, then that's fine. We all have to be true to ourselves, and try the best we can to follow our own road.
