I guess I want to share the naming of my children. I named my son after grandparents and uncles on both sides of the family. I wanted to name him Pete but my husband objected since my last name was Hunter at the time. My dad had a brother named Pete that everyone seemed to idolize but he died of alcoholism very young. I thought that I could get by with naming the boy Pete instead of Peter so I asked my dad if Uncle Pete was really Peter or just Pete. My dad informed me that his name was James because Pete was the nickname for James. Later in life I learned Uncle Pete was James Preston so my son could have been Preston but was instead a James.
I named my daughter Sydney after my Dad Sid. When I told him the baby would be Sydney if it was a girl he said please don't name her Sydney, name her a pretty little girl's name. I asked him what he thought would be a pretty little girl's name and he said Sam.

I was named after my maternal grandmother Lora. My middle name is Joyce so they could call me Jo because my father was sure he was going to have a boy named Jo and that way he could still have a Jo.

Named after someone my mother had never met … but who’s mail she sorted, and liked.. I was shown to him shortly thereafter, and am sure he was absolutely thrilled … as I’ve never met another.. ‘Varn’ is not my name

No one.....although dad wanted to name me Bartholomew. Mom put the ixnay on that right quick.

I was named after my uncle who was killed on a minesweeper in WW2

I was named Amy because my parents wanted an uncommon name, that I wouldn't have to share with a dozen other kids at school.

Amy was the second-most popular name, the year I was born. Go figure.

To be fair, this was in the days before the internet. I can't really blame them for not knowing.
