I have two serious question. Concering CCP virus or whatever the current name is... What is the survival rate of people on respirators? And how long does it take to recover when on a respirator?

FYI: the name of the virus is Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Corona Viurs 2, or SARS-Cov-2 for short. COVID-19 is the name of the disease caused by the virus. (source CDC, WHO)

I think Governor Cuomo has been saying 7 to 21 days is usually how long someone has to stay on one, but that the longer a patient is on a ventilator, the less likely the chance of survival (in other words, death more likely). I haven't seen or heard of any survival rate numbers. The CDC recently added a COVID-19 tracker, so you might find something there, [cdc.gov] . As far as recovery after coming off a ventilator, I think that depends upon how much damage was done to the lungs, so it's case by case.

Years if ever, the lack of oxygen that gets you on a scarce respirator is very very bad for your brain cells.

@dave1459 the death rate is because there are far too few to go around so if you get one, things are already very dire.
