Politicians get elected thanks to donations from big business, or being part of it.
Therein lies the real dilemma.
Until nations allocate each candidate a fixed amount to spend on campaigning, with strict auditing and instant disqualification for violations, this dilemma will continue.
BUT, how can this allocation system happen when big money is against it?
Other countries do invest more toward the public good. The US has become the most capitalistic of all the developed countries. In the end it will come back to bite us.
A big bite has already been taken. Just hope the feeding stops soon.
