What is the craziest church experience that you've been in? One church I went to scared the hell out of me, mentally. It felt like I was in an actual cult.

A classmate friend of mine invited me to his church a year ago. I wanted to be supportive, nice, and just go one time for the check of it.

At the end of the surmon, the pastor ordered everyone to stand up and repeat this paragraph of religious stuff that were on these televisions screens (there were two T.V.s located on both sides of the church, so people could sing along to songs with the lyrics on the televisions).

There were over 50+ people. They all stood up and everyone at once repeated out loud what the pastor had put up on the televisions. I wondered if any of them really even knew what it meant or what they were saying.

This is a form of cult-like behaviors through programming and repitition. Also, 90% of the people in that church have been going there since they were kids and everyone dated only members that were a part of that church.

I'm still good friends with my classmate and we've made agreements to set our differences aside. I'm also empathetic and feel somewhat bad for him that he somehow got sucked into that church and is now being brainwashed (he was not born into the church and became a Christian a few years). Why he chose that church I do not know and have yet to ask him. :/

Many years ago when I was in the Army stationed at Fort Benning Georgia, the Christians were busy advertising a huge revival to be held in a tent outside the city of Columbus Georgia. I decided to go and see what it was all about. The tent was huge with many rows of folding chairs and a big stage with a musical band on stage. The preacher whipped the crowd into a frenzy ....the band was playing.....and all of a sudden the preacher said....."""I see the Holy Ghost hovering over the audience. He kept screaming in "tongues" ....unintelligible nonsense. Then all of a sudden people in the audience started screaming and then literally falling down on the floor...knocking the chairs over and rolling around in ecstasy.....

My step mother made me go to church but once when I was 13 she actually went with me. That day the moron of a preacher decided to tell the teenagers that this is as good as it gets so enjoy it now. My mom was so livid. When we got home she said the last thing an angst ridden teenager needs to hear is that it doesn't get any better. She told me that was bullshit and that I never had to go to church again. And I didn't.
He was kind of right though but short on detail. When I was a child, I always lived in the moment but as an adult I had to learn how to plan for the future. I'll take being an adult any day.

These cults like any other religious order are simply just a minority group of individuals that found a way to intilectualy minipulate and capitalism off the minds of those who cannot see them being minipulated simply because they are told what they want to hear so naturally they will always be deceived as this is a two way street. So in actual fact this is really a sad situation because when you think of it God in any religion is actually just an imaginary friend which is no different from my kids imagery friends.

They are giant Cults! One of worst, and one of very few times I’ve entered an active church (mom & I had actually cleaned one for awhile), I tagged along with a (now former) Bro. in law to his Catholic mass.

He told me there were no expectations, and that I’d not have to participate … then they all started this ‘rising, sitting, rising’ crap.. I thought, F-this … until I noticed what seemed like hundreds of faces looking as though they’d kill me ..if given the word from Landru

I obediently stood a few times, and of course - never went back. Creepy shit..

That does sound kinda creepy. I don't think I had do that , when I believed in the bs. It does sound cult like. Of course I think all sects of christainity are cults, since brain washing goes on no matter what.

Many years ago in college, I met a talented bunch of individuals who followed a church that banned birth control. The church also strongly encouraged its members to marry one another. So what wound up happening is that these couples got together early and had lots of kids that they couldn't really afford. It was very sad to me.

Catholics don't believe in birth control . Many countries that are poor and Catholic have way too many kids they can't afford. It's still happening!
