Because a certain type of gullible person is particularly stupid!

I have to sometimes remind myself that education and knowledge cannot, and demonstrably does not, increase basic native intelligence in an idividual. The average I.Q. Is around 100 which means that there are a great number of people who fall way below that median!

In my experience, people who have a low IQ does not equate to accepting the nonsense that 5G masts cause coronavirus.

@anglophone Really? Then how do you account for people believing this nonsense?

@Marionville Factors other than just having a low IQ. A tendency towards being credulous is also a requirement. Consider somebody with a low IQ who is firmly convinced that coronavirus is a hoax, for example.

@anglophone Factors other than,..yes, but I reckon it’s a fairly large factor.

IQ can be increased or decreased by environment either natural or social. IQ test are also not reliable universally as cultural implications cannot be taken into account satisfactorily.

@Geoffrey51 I agree with what you say, but only to a point. Native intelligence is primarily a matter of genetics. It can be increased, but not to a hugely significant degree. The IQ tests may not be completely accurate, but they are a good general indicator.

Not sure you will like my answer.

Weakness, insecurity, hoping for miracles are human traits. Education, technology cannot change or cure them. These people exist in all societies. It is true that these traits are nurtured and made normal in societies with superstitious, senseless traditions, high religion. People with strengths of these traits will find reasons in any land, in any society to address their weaknesses. Often you will find one of the siblings with these traits while others are different - raised by the same parents, in the same circumstances. These people will remain like they are in any high technology, or even in an atheist land.

They relate all events, all happenings to either God, a superstitious or a belief. Religion just gives them a justification or cover to continue to harbor their beliefs. I have seen it in my own family. Have not yet understood yet after 50 years why one sibling was so superstitious, insecure and religious while being savvy, highly educated, accomplished, and well traveled worldwide.

It is a sad comment on the culpable stupidity of the those who are willfully ignorant. Their refusal to learn sometimes ends up killing other people.

In some ways it is very much the failing of the education system. For so long governments have promoted education as only, a means to ascend the narrow conventional employment ladder. For the vast majority of people therefore, who have no ambitions to ascend that ladder beyond the lower levels, or even any expectations of employment, plus those with unconventional ambitions, it is seen as simply pointless.

While the really important benefits of education, that it can make you a happier and more fullfilled human being, better able to use the benefits of leisure, and a better member of society with a better understanding of the world in which you live, plus an immunity to pseudo education and expliotation by commercial, religious and political cults and institutions, go mainly neglected, both in the education system and its promotion.

Why you would think that those commercial religious and political institutions had a vested interest in keeping people ignorant.
