I wonder if the shutdown and $600 a week unemployment checks will help swing some of the lower wage republicans away from their party on the minimum wage issue once this is over. Federal minimum wage is 290 a week at 40 hours. I live in a state where it is more and I make significantly above but 600 a week is still more than I make.

It hurts to give something up once you have it and you begin to feel you deserve it. Im wondering if it will piss some of them off enough to switch sides when this ends and everyone is used to having a living wage paycheck...

Hmm, interesting point. I think it's usual unemployment plus $600, isn't it?

I didnt realize that. That's incomprehensible to me..

Seriously WTF.. That is alot more than what I make.. And my job is bad and expecting us to do more.

Trying not to be crispy here but that's really offensive to some of us stuck in bad job situations who can't stay home..

And what about all the min wage cashiers and stockers...

@MsAl I know what you mean. Frankly, I think we would have been better off and it would have been fairer to have left unemployment alone, and just sent out a weekly or monthly benefit to everyone, instead of just a one-time benefit to all.

(I also don't understand why it takes so long to start sending out that one-time benefit.)

" It includes a $600 weekly increase for up to four months, on top of state benefits."
