A childhood friend from my neighborhood passed away a few days ago. It was a car crash. I haven’t spoken to her probably since I was in middle school. Grew up, lost touch, life happened. But I have nothing but fun and fond memories of her and her family. I saw pictures and condolences being given on her older sister’s Instagram, and that’s how I found out the news. Lesson: please reach out and stay in touch. Like the photo, comment and tell them how lovely their smile is, send a quick message. Even a little “like” shows someone that you have acknowledged them and that their presence, even for that once second in the form of a silly photo on Facebook, made you smile. You looked at them and you noticed them and they were a part of your life for a moment. In life, we all want to feel special and wanted, even just for a few seconds. Don’t wait until someone is gone. Do it now.

I learned this the hard way myself. I'm sorry for your loss.

Lost a friend of 60 years last year. We'd not been in constant communication for several years, but I still considered him a close friend for many reasons. He was a devout Christian, but that didn't matter to me. We would talk on the phone, or get together maybe once a year and rehash old times, picking up like we'd seen each other only a few weeks before rather than months, or a year or two.

I went to see him about two weeks before he died, ravaged with pancreatic cancer and bedridden. I did my best to joke with him and make him chuckle, which he did, about some of the crazy stuff we did as kids. He said he was happy and ready to go, and that made me feel good for him, even though our beliefs diverged widely. He was a good man with a good heart, and I will always consider him as a brother, regardless of our differences.

I did not loose someone in the same sense that u did, and I would like 2 start by saying how sorry I am for ur loss. I did recently however, loose several people in my life due 2 disrespect, lies, and cheating. In total I lost a neighbor woman who was a friend for about a year, a male friend of a few years, my boyfriend/baby's father who I had been with on and off for about 3 years, and what I thought was my best friend of 15 years. Loosing people changes u tho sometimes in a profound way. I find it interesting tho, that both our experiences brought us 2 the same conclusion, which is that it is important 2 keep in touch with those u care about. After my lose, I grieved for a while, and in a way I still am, but I also started 2 reach out 2 old friends as well as making some new ones along the way. I'm sorry if u r hurting, but I am glad that it brought u something positive 2. Hugs lady

I'm sorry for your loss. I had a similar experience. I lost touch with my best friend from high school many years ago. We both went through some hard times & grew apart, not on purpose, it just happened. I decided to try to track her down a few years ago & all I ended up finding was a death certificate from several years earlier. I know approximately when it happened, but I don't know what happened. None of the other people from our old circle of friends know either. Like you said. Don't wait until they're gone.

I lost a friend in February from a heart attack. She was 50-years-old. I had lost touch with her for 1 year. Her sister found me in her cell phone and called to tell me the news. It was sad. She had become a recluse and she hid from her family and friends. Her phones were shut off and she never answered her family's letters. My condolences for your loss. It is hard to lose a friend. I had tried to call my friend in November of 2017, but her phones had been shut off then.
