How is it going with the violin? I took up the violin in May this year.

Hi, egt1977. As a long-time professional musician, I would say that a good approach (although not the only one), would be to find a good teacher on the instrument. If you live in a large city that has a professional orchestra, it might be a good bet to contact that orchestra and ask if any of the violinists give lessons. That way, you will get the insights of a professional musician, and, assuming that they're a good teacher, you will be able to play the violin well in a fairly short time, if you apply yourself and practice diligently.

Another way to go about learning an instrument is to learn by doing and watching video instruction, as you might find on YouTube or other online sources. I'm sure there are basic violin lessons available online, but keep in mind that it's not as good a method as having a good teacher one-on-one, because a teacher can get you started with all the right technique and habits. Teaching yourself via videos, you might have incorrect technique that you don't realize you're doing until you attempt to learn more advanced technique. Try finding a good local teacher first, for private lessons. That's my recommendation.

Good advice to take note of.

Thank you for the advice, I've been playing guitar around 25 years, So I'm sort of figuring it out myself. I'll check getting lessons.
