Love the thought! Not sure it is really true that there weren't some behind the scenes stuff going on. Also the news cycle and news reporters were more interested in policy than the dirt. Look at how long it took for JFK's affair with MM to come out.

Did that happen mostly? There may be good examples of unity but both parties went at each other throats exactly on ideas. Ideology is a really at the center of the hatred. You are painting a picture of how both parties did a kumbayaa mostly.

I envision the Johnson Ad ...counting down a Goldwater nuclear launch.. They were definitely aware of the serious ideological consequences 😕

@dave1459 ..then you’ve not paid very close attention lately. I’d say it began with Reagan, Carter was too nice, still is.. Nixon did his thing, too, but on the whole, the Republican Party still had some morals. Not any more!
