Woman’s Sufferage. PBS has a new show dealing with women’s right to vote. I have seen several videos on this subject and thought there was nothing new. Wrong. This is a long two part series and I think most people have no idea what women both in the US and England went through to get this basic right. Some scenes are horrible to watch and one can plainly see why some women are so pissed at men’s behavior. At one point black men got to vote whereas women did not. Finally, the house passed a bill but the southern ‘Democrats’ refused to allow it as it would give black women the right and really upset the ‘southern’ way of life (bigotry). It was not until a Republican majority took over the senate that women finally got this right. Interesting how politics have changed. It was a looong, hard, painful tortuous, slog, decades of which we all need to learn.
A statement was submitted that still is debated today. It is known as the “Statement of Sentiments” [nps.gov]
