I was a spelunker in my youth and a member of the first two expeditions to the Sótano de San Agustín. On the first trip we ran out of rope. The photo below is the second trip and we took enough to set a world depth record but the rainy season had started and we were stopped at a whirlpool in the bowl holes. We did set the Western Hemisphere record and the cave has since been pushed very much deeper, remaining the deepest cave in the Americas and now with over 40 miles of mapped passageway. I have since slowed down considerably.
