Ok, for those of us who survived attempted indoctrination, what was the most surreal thing you saw in church? For me it was the beautiful young ex heroin addict doing her testimony via ventriloquism.

That is great! What was her puppet like?

I have often thought speaking in tongues was wierd. Just not natural

Once I witnessed an exocisism. Freakiest thing I have ever seen; in fact I NEVER want to see that again.

Another time one of our decons decided to argue with the pastor in the middle of his sermon. At the time I just wanted to tell the decon to shut the "f" up and take it up with the preacher after the service.

I was raised Catholic, so there wasn't too much crazy, but one guy who was pretty strange got up in the middle of the service once and loudly told another parishoner guy to "repent". Now, I had another girl, my age, going to my church, who had 2 uncles who were Priests, so her family is super religious. Her married older brother , after having 2 kids, eventually came out as gay, left his wife and family and moved in with his boyfriend...My friend told me later that he went to a faith healer to pray the gay out of him and was talking in tounges and rolling around on the floor. Yep,,freaking nuts. But she thought it was wonderful and felt it was all legit. I just smiled and listened.

Well what kind of puppet was it?

That actually sounds quite entertaining

I was 17, and was dating a girl whose parents made her attend church regularly. I had promised her I would go with them to a Sunday night service. On the Saturday night before, my brother and some friends had done some super strong LSD. I was still tripping pretty good and had had no sleep, when I went to church and they had deaf-mutes get up and testify. I almost got up and ran out of the church.

Not so much. Catholicism is just the same damn thing over and over. Monotony is not an incentive to stay.

that sounds special

I went to one of those giant mega churches and the minister paused the service so that people could buy his book on how to be financially successful like god intended his followers to be. People were walking down the aisles with trays full of books that reminded me of hot dog vendors at a baseball game.

Well I would have to say a man trying to play amazing grace with his armpits is right up there. You know the old trick of putting your hand in your armpit and flapping your arm. Makes kind of a farting noise.
