It doesn't seem all that accurate to state that people supported something simply because they weren't speaking out about it. Racism against a people is a far cry from opposition to a people's government. I agree that our current leader has effectively blended the notions by spewing his own flavor of propaganda, but the common man in the US knows the congruency between opposing the oppression of a group of people and objecting to governments who also oppress theirs. You can no more legitimately judge a group of people by their governments than you can by their political propaganda.

@powder Pretty sure Biden has come a long way along with our nation on the issue of civil rights. Many people made decisions in the 60's that they likely wouldn't make today. I am okay with accepting people can grow from their mistakes and his sincerity on this issue is compelling. It certainly was as VP under Obama, and in regards to Obama, I suggest you fact check your sources on his separting immigrant families. I provided one for you to review so that you can see you might not be getting an unbiased perspective from whatever sources you are consuming. I am in no way saying Dems are pure and Republicans are evil, but I will confidently say that Trump and his Republican party has been by far the most destructive our country has ever seen. He and his minions are the closest thing that exists to evil outside of make believe Satan.

@powder We can definitely agree on that. I should also state, I'm not a Biden fan. You're right, we do want change, though not the flavor of it Trump brought about (although clearly his supporters are okay with it), I don't think that's the majority opinion or desire, or even was when he was elected. Our two party system no longer works for the people, it predominantly responds to the wishes of the corporations, and has for some time. We need to ban lobbyists and I would love to see us do something like (I think) your country, Australia does and cap our campaign spending so that elections are played out on a balanced playground. We spend enough money campaigning for shitty politicians that we could solve a helluva lot of our problems with that cash flow, instead we tend to create bigger ones by it. I don't know what the ultimate solution is, and I don't think any one man will be able to undo the harm Trump has done, but if Biden responds in the slightest to the will of the people NOW, we'll certainly be better off for it.

Nope...RT is a propaganda arm of the Russian State. There is a lot of truth woven through this opinion piece and much of it I can agree with, but that is the clever part of propaganda, because if some of it rings true it’s then presumed to all be true..but not so! I prefer to go to reliable independent journalistic sources for facts and then form my own opinions based on them, not opinions from those with a slanted agenda.

@powder The BBC are great at investigative pieces where I believe their journalism is as independent as it’s possible to find. The government has taken issue with plenty of their output over the years...the Tories say they’re too biased towards Labour and Labour say they’re too right wing...sounds to me like they must be pretty impartial then. I’m sure some news broadcasts are subject to editorial and journalistic bias, but on the whole they are pretty accurate, and can be very critical of the UK and it’s policies. The BBC is funded by the viewers through the Licence Fee and not funded from central government or at the behest of, or having to please advertisers. The Tories are making moves to change this and turn it into a commercial pay to view organisation, something I am vehemently against as I believe it will lose its independence and impartiality.

@powder Bias..such as? Give me an example.

@powder How much BBC viewing do you do? I have heard these arguments before about the anti-Corbyn bias and I disagree completely, there was critical analysis of him yes, and there was also critical analysis of Theresa May and Boris Johnston. Labour didn’t lose the general election because of a right wing media bias against Corbyn, either by the BBC or the Daily Mail, it was because the British public didn’t think he’d make a good PM. The Labour party made a bad mistake in electing someone who was so left wing as a leader and I trust that with Keir Starmer as leader they can regain the vast swathes of lost Labour voters next time around. I am not a Tory supporter and would be the first one to say so if I detected any bias against Labour, but I haven’t.

I have seen programmes on the BBC which covered protests in France and Israel, in fact more or less everywhere there are protests going on around the world. You must have been very selective in your viewing to have missed them.

As for politicians squirming....yes during the run up to the last election Andrew Neil gave all the leaders of the parties a proper grilling at a one on one, face to face interview...the only one who passed the Neil test was Nicola Sturgeon the SNP leader ..one Scot to another, she held her ground. Boris of course tried his usual buffoonery and waffled and kept repeating the mantra Cummings had drilled into him “We’ll get Brexit done”. The LibDem leader, Jo Swinson, melted altogether and Corbyn evaded and generally did himself no credit.

I watch other UK channels too, and like Channel 4 news, but for documentaries and expose’s, and in depth behind the news type news, it is hard to find better than our BBC.

Russia interfered in out elections. Vladimir Putin just poisoned a political rival Alexei Navalny. RT is the FoxNews of Russia. This piece is critical of those who opposed racism and antisemitism and asking then why they are critical of Russia. Critical of Putin not of Russian people.

@powder If Biden gets in. That's when the sanctions will begin. Trump is in bed with Putin. RT is a news agency controlled by Tass. BLM are Americans, they're only concerned with problems going on in America. Russia needs to be sanctioned. If you don't think Navalny was poisoned. You're being silly

@powder Annexation of Crimea, invasion of Eastern Ukraine, election interference, cyber activity, hacking, cyber theft, human rights abuses, chemical weapon, weapons proliferation, illicit trade with North Korea, propping up Assad Regime, international espionage including poisoning in UK of Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia. Other than that? Nothing. So you're from Australia. What reason do you have to love Putin so much?

@powder A lot of Australians hate America. I see it a lot of that on this site. I hope they all don't feel that way. Americans love your country.

@powder Америка - самая могущественная и богатая страна в мире. Доллар США является валютой по умолчанию для планеты. Извините, что разочаровал вас.

@powder США США США
