For the first time in my 52 years, the thought came to mind to move from the United States. Not because of who’s president or what’s going on with politics — but because the American people have become small and selfish and ugly and mean and hateful and willfully ignorant.
I’m embarrassed to be lumped in with these people who can’t see the world beyond their own small, immediate needs and limited perspective.
Who can’t act with an ounce of compassion or feel any degree of empathy for people outside their small circle.
Who preach “love they neighbor” — but in actuality give their neighbor the middle finger (or worse).
Who shout their “special knowledge” from the rooftops — while insisting everyone else is asleep, a sheep, a moron, uneducated, etc. etc. etc.
These people shame me. They enrage me. They defeat me.
With my son being only 10 years old, this clearly isn’t something I can act on. At least now. But if we as a nation can’t recover from this acute period of hatred and ugliness and infighting, there’s honestly no telling.

Many thousands of draftees escaped to Canada and elsewhere until Jimmah Carter pardoned them all ....it costs money to leave USA a high price to escape the genocidal supporters cheering on the invasion of Vietnam and bombing of Cambodia.....if I had the money I would buy a sailboat and take you two wherever you want to go away from racists rapist priests killer cops bigots and criminal theocrats

I think only about 1/3 of our fellow citizens are assholes, and they are aggressive. I think they can be managed, but EVERY ONE of us would need to be very assertive and active to put them in their place (out of power).

Unfortunately it’s a lot bigger than Trump. I think Trump brought this side out in Americans, but now that it’s out, people seem to be reveling in it. And I’m not so sure things will go back once he’s out of office. 
@Apunzelle I agree. I don't think this is new. I just think Trump has given them permission to show their colors and I'm afraid we may not recover from this.
@Apunzelle most of them are cowards...theyll go back into hiding when this mess is over......as for leaving the country don't make excuses...just do it...there are a lot of places in this world with better opportunities ..what is your skill set? just do it!!!
@Redneckliberal I don’t have an excuse per se. It’s just that my son is only 10, and his dad is here in the USA. I wouldn’t take them apart ... they love each other and need to be in each other’s life.

New Zealand was cold when I visited, too. And rainy. And waaaaay too far from the rest of the world (and from the people I love).

@MissKathleen seems I'm in the same situation as you. We're past our sell-by age for work permits abroad unless like you say, if we have the macho bucks
@MissKathleen plenty from here are also all over that side too and I believe the perks are good. Two people I know left to do exactly that in Thailand just before lockdown. My older son is currently working in Japan but he also teaches English part-time to University students and CEOs of companies.
