In second grade I remember learning about the Roman Empire. The teacher said that they believed in multiple gods and that we now know how crazy that was that we now know there is only one god. I remember at that age I still thought. how do we "know". Does anyone remember specifically when they knew they didn't believe?

It’s concerning to me that she put out there, in a school setting that we know there is one God. That it’s accepted fact. Different times I suppose.

I don't remember where I read it, but as I perused a thumbnail sketch of history, there was a section entitled "The one God triumphs." That got me thinking, "Over what?" Moments later, it occurred to me that it meant a change in beliefs in a certain group of people. That made a lot more sense than imagining a single deity winning a pitched battle over all the "false" gods cluttering up the divine landscape.
