“Anthropologist Harvey Whitehouse thinks too much talk about religion is based on loose conjecture and simplistic explanations. Whitehouse directs the Institute of Cognitive and Evolutionary Anthropology at Oxford University. For years he’s been collaborating with scholars around the world to build a massive body of data that grounds the study of religion in science.”

The "invention" of religion. I love it! Been using that term for many years. Religion - It's complicated.
The beginning of a discussion is fun and interesting. Many times it ends with each fighter returning to their corner and agreeing to disagree. That's if you're talking with a religious person/believer. With a non-believer I tend to question why are we even having this chat.
It's a good article and I have bookmarked it for future reference!!

“...creating personal bonds that people are willing to kill and die for.”

Like one presumably would for family.

@skado For family or for domination, and for domination’s benefits.

@yvilletom
Yes. That’s the human dilemma.

When I 1st read it I read it, as THE White House. made me kinda cross-eyed.

I could see those eyes bugging out all the way over here, so I added a bit more of the quote for clarity. 😄

@skado I saw. Thanks!

@skado This is a fantastic article I haven't even finished, but I do note the praying before and during the ball game as an intersection of those secularisticish and religious rituals.
