11,000 times dirtier than a toilet seat!! What, is 11,000 times dirtier than a toilet seat? Well, its the gas pump handle we use to dispense fuel into our vehicles!! How many of you carry around hand sanitizer/wipes and use them after a stop at a station? I encourage my patients to use sanitizers and to carry them on their person at all times. Something to think about on your next road trip.

I've spent so much time taking immunosuppresants that carrying hand sanitizer is a habit with me. Never thought about gas pump handles, though. Ewww! Now I won't forget!

I don't do any of that. you ever seen a chimp carrying hand sanitizer?

Not sure what your point is, I have NEVER SEEN A CHIMP WIPE HIS/HER BEHIND.... thanks for your comment.

chimps and peoples in the jungle/dessert don't carry sanitizer and they get by just fine until we so-called civilized folks come along.

I live in New Jersey, the only state where you're still not allowed to pump your own gas. But there are plenty of other dirty things to touch.

I keep organic hand sanitizer (Dr Bronner's lavender) in my center consule, but then again, our parents and grandparents pumped gas without sanitizer........they were fine.

And still the pump is 11,000 times dirtier than the toilet seat. Your point being that your parents and grandparents were fine, got that. I pointed out the difference between the toilet and the pump and one of the preventative measures that anyone could use to reduce their chances of acquring a number of bacteria that may make them unhealthy.

@JayJackson ......and I got your point.

And that is why l won't eat off of either one of them.

You actually took time out of your DAY to post this comment? Lol, thanks for your wit.

@JayJackson A lot of free time. I know, it's sad.

@Sticks48 All depends on how you look at it.

@SACatWalker Agreed. I souldn't have made out of childhood if that was a real problem.

@SACatWalker Whats is this "bogus fear"? The study that indicates more germs on one surface than another or the nonexistent conspiracy theory thats rattling in your head?

@SACatWalker, @Sticks48 Where to start, lets start here, super germs are prevalent throughtout our health care systems NOW. How did we get here? Well part of the issue is that we have overused ANTIBIOTICS to a point that they are no longer effective, this began years ago and now we are at crisis point so much so that these "SUPERGERMS" are running amock, not responding to threaputic medications. This isnt a conspiracy this is fact. Thusly you can "suck" whatever appendage you desire but the fact remains that if you acquire one of these superbugs then you are screwed. The facts also tell us that usage of a hand sanitizer of some sort reduces your chances of acquring these germs. Lastly, when you or I were growing up things were vastly different, the A.I.D.S virus wasnt a worldwide epidemic if it existed at all. So would you have unprotected sex now because A.I.D.S wasnt around when you were young? Because, some of these germs found on these pumps can cause extreme damage and death in certain cases. E.coli, listeria, c-diff, mrsa and vrsa are just a few and a few were not around when we were young. So....

@JayJackson Your a germaphobe. It's OK with me. When l see all of my unsanitary friends start falling like bowling pins l will jump on board. 🙂

@Sticks48 Not a germaphobe at all, I enjoy paintball, mudding and strip clubs with gusto, roll the dice and play poker when I can. What I AM is a HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONAL, one at the highest levels in my community. I am also very aware of what afflicts my community and this very basic idea of sanitizing ones hands is a start in the process to alleviate some of the basic maladies that affect some of my case load, not to mention the cost to EVERY TAX PAYER that has to foot the bill for the "common cold" and flu that these germs are causing. Does it really have to get to the point of your friends, "dropping over like pins"? Thats my spiel.

@JayJackson Pretty much. 🙂

@Sticks48 lol

@JayJackson ?

@SACatWalker I hate hand sanitizers and do not wash my hands more than about once a day. I'm rarely sick, maybe a cold a year or every other year. Exposure to some dirt is healthy, a few germs doesn't hurt either, makes for a healthy immune system.
I'm a substitute teacher too.

@marlayne Same here. I don't get colds or the flu. Isn't that how we build our immune system?

@SACatWalker LOL 🙂

I did a germ test in high school. Know what else is dirtier that a toilet seat? Soda cans. Think about that next time you pop open a can.

Yes Ma'am. I don't partake, so I am in the clear on that one.
