Good riddance to Trump and his cronie, Attorney General William Barr. If Barr had his way, he would make the U.S. a Christian Nationalist version of a theocracy. Barr was fond of misrepresenting the American Founders views on the importance of religion, and blaming lack of religiosity in America for all of the country’s problems: “Experience teaches that, to be strong enough to control willful human beings, moral values must be based on authority independent of man's will. In other words, they must flow from a transcendent Supreme Being. Men are far likelier to obey rules that come from God than to abide by the abstract outcome of an ad hoc utilitarian calculus.” In April of this year he made an announcement signaling Justice Department support for church gatherings during the pandemic. Emboldened by support from the Attorney General, the very next month Trump called houses of worship “essential”, and declared that, “In America, we need more prayer, not less.” And he asserted that churches must “re-open” and threatened to “override the governors” who continue shutdowns affecting churches. Ironically, the 80% of evangelicals who support him are most likely to be the ones harmed by such actions. With both Georgia and Arizona just now having finally been called in favor of Joe Biden, as a soon to be private citizen, Trump will face all manner of legal woes for a variety of financial misdealings, sexual assault allegations, and corruption, while Barr faces investigation for misuse of his office. This video indicates that vindication may soon be arriving. I love the forthrightness of the broadcaster here, Lawrence O'Donnell, who until now I was unfamiliar with:
