During a recent conversation, I was commenting about the abundant paradoxical behaviors (i.e., pandemic deniers, election deniers, anti vaxers, science deniers) I am witnessing in the U.S. which make me wonder what year I woke up in. Or what century? There is plenty of anecdotal evidence to go around. But then I was asked if there is any empirical evidence to possibly explain widespread science denial. I did some research and discovered the following research study which was peer reviewed and published in 2018. It is titled Religiosity predicts negative attitudes towards science and lower levels of science literacy. The first sentence in the general conclusion sums it up well. It says the following: "The findings from these four studies show that religiosity is negatively related to science knowledge and is associated with more negative attitudes towards science. " I thought I would share this with you in the event you need some empirical evidence to support future discussions regarding your non religious views.

Thanks for the information. But I can honestly say I do not find it at all surprising. 😣

I keep trying to explain to my other progressive friends, we will not adopt progressive ideas until we put religion in its proper place as they have done in Europe, so it may be awhile. We will fall behind the rest of the modern world until we do.

That is the logical path to take. Perhaps Jan 20 will be the first step in that direction.

@kensmile4u It will be a small one. In two years the Republicans could control both houses of Congress. Even if they win those seats in Georgia we will be in the same mess we have been for about two decades. Given how many people voted for Rump the Republicans could win the Presidency again.I'm not feeling very optimistic at this point. There are millions of ignorant God fearing Christians in this country.

@Sticks48 I worry about that too. But that potential outcome has less probability than others. Things are more likely to start working against Trump after Monday when the electoral college votes for Biden.

@kensmile4u Without those two seats in Georgia nothing will happen legislatively. It will just be Executive Orders, forgein policy, and McTurkey and the Senate Republicans protecting the corporations and the rich. Those seats are our only salvation unless McTurkey dies. Anyway we will see.

Anyone still believe the US is still number 1?

I have never thought we were unless you judge us by our wealth and power. As for how we take care of and treat ALL of our citizens, we are not even top 10.

@Sticks48 Totally true on that. But not only wealth and power.

Take infrastructure for instance. If you look at this country’s airports, roadways, railways, compared to Western, Eastern Europe and Scandinavia, it’s more of a third rateβ€”as opposed to third world country.

As far as the way the US treats ALL its citizens is, well I cannot find appropriate words.

@SeaRay215ex l totally agree.

And the stupid as well.

No matter what time period you're looking at , there will always non-intellectual sheep , who , whether or not they actually believe something , which makes no sense , are going to follow where they're led .

We have come as close to a fascist dictatorship that I have ever seen. 1938 Nazi Germany could happen here. Right on front of your eyes.

Yeah, it's pretty frickin' scary. 😟

This is why more people should start buying, and learning how to use firearms.

I have 2 rifles. Even though i only have them for personal protection in my house and don’t take them out of it, I would not think twice about using them if this country did become a dictatorship.

I will not cow down, I will never allow myself to be anything other than what I am for any reason.
