PARDON SPREE...... Trump goes on a rampage with pardons. He may preemptively pardon his family members also." [cnn.com]

American Democracy needs serious reforms.

  1. Take away president's privilege to pardon anyone. His pardon requests must be approved by 2/3 of Congress. Else not allowed
  2. Remove all subsidies to the rich or poor
  3. Outlaw Citizens vs United
  4. All political donations must be made public by candidate and PACs within 30 days
  5. Increase taxes to 75% on golden parachutes
  6. Implement voter ID law nationwide
  7. Put 2 term limits for all members of Congress
  8. Tighten ethics law and rules on nepotism, lobbying, campaign finance and an automatic special prosecutor appointment after sufficient evidence is submitted to the Inspector General
  9. Take these appointments out of President's hands, These should have a fixed 8 year term:
    a. FCC
    b. CDC
    c. FAA
    d. SEC
  10. Ban White House appointments by president of relatives and lobbyists in the administration
  11. Do something about the fucking lifetime appointments of Supreme Court Judges.

Will our Democratic leaders pass serious ethics laws and rules in Congress as soon as they even get closer to a majority in the Senate? I also wanted to ask... what was the harm in passing these so far in the House as a symbolic gesture to send a message to voters?

A tax on golden parachutes will move Wall Street[?] to change the name. How do we avoid such tactics?

I don't have all answers but it will reduce the appeal behind the loot and bring in revenue.

A bunch of needed reforms. Break rules is what Trump does.

American Democracy is a dream. The Founders gave us a plutocratic oligarchy.

The SCOTUS case is Citizens United vs. FEC. Which reminds me; ten years and I have yet to read it. I read rights rulings but tend to ignore money rulings.

I'd be down with the listed suggestions....what we have is horrific.

The Founders also failed to envision two parties.

Hamilton quickly formed the Federalist Party and met to plan policy. Jeffferson evened the odds by forming the Democratic Republicans.

Agree.
We also don't talk enough that all founding father owned slaves while writing in the Constitution that all men are created equal?

It really amazed me when he pardoned that war criminal. I didn’t even know it was possible until Trump.
Seems pretty wrong from where I’m sitting.

There’s so much wrong that’s come to light under Trump. Absolutely more restrictions need to be put in place at the Executive level.

Not sure I agree with a 75% tax for anyone ... or removing subsidies for the poor ... but I do agree with much else.

It's been that high and higher in the past. But there were also a ton of loopholes and if you think there wouldn't be now, you're not paying attention.

@Larimar Well gee. Thanks for the condescending comment..

@Apunzelle not meant as such at all. Just a matter of fact from an accountant....
