Move to OZ. We have gun laws here and reasonably tolerant of diversity but we still have a long way to go.
Hope you're watching the Commonwealth Games on TV that's if the broadcasts are available in the USA.

Dear readers, it's a cultural myth that we have deadly creatures here. The majority of tourists actually make it home safely though we do like cheekily scaring backpackers about the dangers of OZ wildlife, especially the English ones and I do admit a few tourists in far North QLD did end up a tasty a tasy dinner for a salt water crocodile but they went skinny dipping at night. The poor croc probably got severe alcohol poisoning after that culinary delight.

I like the laws in OZ, but to be honest there are a lot of creepy crawlies than can kill a person there, and I am legally blind and cant' see them coming. Also, I feelmost at home in the forests, and most of OZ is desert. I am thinking maybe New Zeland instead? At least it is mostly green.

NZ has meat eating parrots

I have a friend in NZ for a year working, both my kids are heading over this year. I think it would be an awesome place.

@RobAnybody As long as they don't eat (aren't predator of) people.

@snytiger6 Nah, we sent them feral drop bears for that.

It takes 37 hours on a plane to get to you, love. And back, if I don't like it. I'll just stay here and read your posts.

37 hours, you got to be joking. You could swim here faster than that.

@jules4169 It's 27 hours, sorry. Still more time I want to invest.

I don't know why we're so obsessed with the government taking our stuff away. We don't do that here, we phase stuff out over time. Way back when, (the 70's), big smog producing cars had to go!!! The government was gonna come for our cars and force us to buy compacts and electric cars!! But that didn't happen. They phased them out by coming up with better cars. In the 80's they where gonna come for our refrigerators and air conditioners because of the ozone. Didn't happen. They're not coming for our guns. But all those idoits posting videos of them shooting up targets with their bump stocks and converted semi auto assault style rifles,....they know who you are now. Idiots

I think it would be a lovely place to live.

It is, but gardening can be risky. 🙂

As I understand it even as a Computer Scientits I could not move to Australia. One needs to be a Millionaire to obtain permanent residence.

I don't think that's true. Most of our OZ talent has migrated O/S so we'd probably be happy to get some back.

Visited Australia a few years ago. Loved it. People were so nice. Americans have a lot to learn from other countries. That being said, I'd miss NYC too much if I moved away.

Just bring lots of money with you to pay for the electricity bills, and the high cost of everything else. The gun laws will keep you safe while you are being price gouged for everything else. It's the greatest country in the world. We know this because the politicians and corporate media tell us so every day. So it must be true.

Should also tell them to bring 2 tin cans and a piece of string, faster and more reliable than Fraudband we get from NBN.

But I can still get decent health care at a rate I can afford.

@RobAnybody can you? Many Australians only get what that can.

@David1955 And compared to most of the world what we can get, our public system, is very bloody good.
I can walk in to Toowoomba base with my daughter having a suspected brain bleed at 2 in the morning and get a specialist MRI within the hour. Free of charge.
On a world scale that's unbelievable.

No no no, it is horrible, great white sharks will jump out the plug hole in your bath and bite your head off, deadly brown snakes hide in your mail box, dead posties everywhere as a result, drop bears in every 2nd tree. @jules4169 wants someone to go to the Ekka with on his Birthday but its on the otherside of the river.
(mate, shhhhh, its a secret, look how many overseas athletes have done a runner since they got here, even some coaches. Getting people to have a look is a big mistake, they never want to leave)
Honestly people, sharks, lots of sharks, BIG sharks, and that's not the worst, our saltwater crocodiles actually eat the sharks, and they walk the streets of most cities, yet even they get eaten by the deadly brown snakes.

I'm headed that way sometime in the near future. Thanks so much for reminding me of the things I have to look forward to! I still check my shoes (for red backs) before I put them on and never put my hand near a pile of wood without checking for snakes first.

ROFLMAO even before the Weirdies' vid.

@patchoullijulie There ya go, should let some of the Aussie members know where you will be and we can give you some pointers. One thing we do well in Oz is coffee apparently.

@Rugglesby Melbourne has the best coffee. I grew up in Perth so I wasn't kidding when I mentioned redbacks and snakes lol. We literally did check those areas and also the mail box. Always found a redback or two there!
