I like different genres of movies.

Film Noir is a favorite. Dashiell Hammett and Raymond Chandler are favorite authors of the genre. I've lost count how many time I've seen "The Maltese Falcon." There are those taut thillers like "D.O.A." and "Kiss of Death." Wasn't Richard Widmark so scary in that one? My all-time favorite film noir film is "Out of the Past." Jane Greer is the ultimate femme fatale and Robert Mitchum is the chump who wises up almost too late. Kirk Douglas was good as a swarmy gangster.

Anyone else enjoy film noir, old or new?

I'm not sure it qualifies, but A face in the crowd, with Andy Griffith, is a really good film.
Andy playing a bad guy is reason enough, and the message still resonates

That is a great movie.

No one can truly study cinema without studying Film Noir, an incredibly ifluencial genre.

"Night of the Hunter" While not strictly film noir, its a dark tale of a pychotic preacher, played by Robert Mitchum, chasing two children across a depressin era, rural landscape. Best performance by Robert Mitchum ever. Scared the sh#t out of me as a child.

That is a good one.

I'm not too familiar with noir films. Sorry. I've never heard of the people you've listed.

I think color erodes at the mood. For instance, Sunset Boulevard would have been a totally different movie. And the Cape Fear with Mitchem as the baddie was superior to the remake. Not just 'cause of the B&W but the "more with less" aura.

The Usual Suspects, naturally. Body Heat was an absolute corker. Also Driver, which was noir in its own way.

Body Heat was also awesome! I liked the Usual Suspects, but Kathleen Turner and William Hurt had great chemistry and the ending that you didn't see coming.

My favorite is ":Blood Simple"
