Profile questions - relationship status - too ambiguous for some of us?
Take me (no pun intended), for instance: I am here looking for discussion and friends, maybe some online flirting if anybody is in to that, but I'd be more than happy to meet people too. On this site, "meet" seems to mean dating of some kind. What about those of us who would just be cool with hanging out?

My profile is very, very blunt about what I want, so there's no room for ambiguity.

No law says you have to answer.

sigh...

The point is moot for me anyway, as I'm nowhere near home for most of this year.
My wife and I have been trying to find ways to make more like-minded friends in our area though. De-converting can be a lonely experience sometimes.
So I'll consider some additional verbiage in my bio closer to coming home, I guess.

There are no rules on this, you make your own.

While I agree with where you're coming from, there are certain settings on the site we have to live with or work around. If I understand the meaning of the labels for profile status, "here for community" means online only, while "willing to meet" means prospective dating. I'm just suggesting that some kind of in-between status could be helpful. In the meantime, I guess bio notes are the best way to go.

@EB80 it does not say "only" on Any of the choices...do you think the relationship police are waiting to swoop down if you send A personal message to another member? Lol!

Not at all. And it's ok that you misunderstand my intent. I've gotten what I sought from this post.

I agree....the standard profile questions don't really shed much light on who you are and what really makes you tick. It does seem harder these days to just make friends - I suppose people think their lives are so busy they need to just go from "Hi, how are you" to hookups and/or relationships in the blink of an eye. I think people forget sometimes that while its nice to have a special someone in your life, its equally nice to have friends who can, indeed, just hang out.

Winning.

This just sounds like you are married but looking for a side piece

Does that mean, to you, there is no in between? It's all online or it's a booty call?
Not everybody sees things that way. For instance, I used to be a member of a site about the band Rush. A bunch of local groups would get together, annually, quarterly, for concerts or whatever. It doesn't have to be about a booty call...

@EB80 then maybe word it so ...I just said it sounds like

Seems shady, but doesn't the community cover everything ? All you have to do is message people to get what ever it is that you are needing. You can't read minds, explain your intentions to others.
Seems simple to me.

And yet, there are some people in this thread who agree with me, if you read the comments, so... yeah.

@EB80 and yet there are some liking my post so I wasn't the only one confused ...

So what words would work for I want to see what happens... i was going to suggest there be a status of "Coffee?" but then that seemed silly... what about 'open'? To vague?
