Feel free to reply to any comment by clicking the "Reply" button.April 1st was (and to some still is) the feast of Venus known as Veneralia, a pagan celebration of love, fertility and sex, to honour the arrival of spring, it was widely celebrated with dances and feast well in to the Victorian age, when with encouragement from the churches it was replaced with April Fools day.
