I am uneasy about a lot of the stunts that Westerners from highly developed countries, go to the (third) underdeveloped world to indulge in. Because they are basically flaunting the fact that they come from cultures wealthy enough to afford health and life insurance, good hospitals and often high quality state health care, plus reasonable levels of social security. So that they do not have to worry about the effects, especially financial, that injury or death may have on them or their families. This is surely insultingly insensitive towards people, for whom, even a couple of days off with a broken leg, could mean great hardship and even real hunger for their families.

While the certainly help to provide money and jobs in the tourist industries, you have to wonder if even more help could not be provided, by responsible tourism, devoted to revering the cultures and natural history of the lands visited.
