I think it’s important to remember how far free speech has come in this country . 200 years ago everyone in this forum would be burned at the stake in this country simply by stating these views

Free speech is an illusion. Just because ur free to say it doesn't mean it's free of consequence or critique

This is an overstatement. Even in the most Puritan colonial times and places in America, atheists were not burned at the stake; they were ostracized and condemned but were not otherwise punished. By 1821 (two hundred years ago), almost every state had disestablished their state churches, religious tests for office were unconstitutional, and nonbelievers and atheists were found in every community. Most people believed that a religious spirit was necessary to be a good citizen, but people were not forced to practice religion nor were they punished if they did not. Social ostracism was the worst you could expect for simply stating atheist views.

I was just estimating. I didn’t realize I was off by 130 years for Salem witch trials but there are still remnants of people today that would kill stheists

Still a possibility, you know.

There are still people in the USA who claim that Atheists should be executed. This is actually true all over the planet. It’s still scary out there folks

There are many places in this country where you can be ostracized or even run out of town for your views and it is always small towns and rural areas. I know. I have played many of them.

True, but the seeds are still there. They'd love to get back to that.

Suppressing criticism of Marxism and Leftism is the new politically/socially correct censorship.

@creative51 Your first three sentences are objective and reasonable. The last three are biased propaganda. 90%? Really?

@creative51 Neither factual nor relevant.
People on the left, such as yourself, need to oppose the "woke" politically correct narrative espoused by the radical leftists.
You need to support centrist politicians such as Tulsi Gabbard and/or Dan Crenshaw.
There is no hope for the future of Western culture unless "conservatives" and "liberals" can communicate in a civil manner.

Being denounced and ridiculed is not the same as being suppressed.

The law of sin and death was a literal thing, yeh

I'm sure there are some people who would happily burn me at the stake if they could get away with it.

2

I pretty much agree, but now on the idea of burning a steak that sounds like a good idea not necessarily burn though. 🤭

2

Probably not literally burned at the stake... at least probably not in the U.S. Just socially, politically, and professionally burned at the stake.

If I existed back then I would have been a proud martyr.
