Both of the below situations are very sad, and we of course go through them both. I guess I just wanted to get some input on them. The 2nd scenario definitely seems to be more hopeless, at least to me.

  1. A person very important to you died and you believe that you will never see them again (since the afterlife is a fairly tale).

  2. A different person also very important to you is still alive and doing okay but you can never see them again for one reason or another.

Remember the old maxim, life is rough and then you die. Some things in life are bad, they can really make you mad. Other things just make you swear and curse. When you’re chewing on life’s gristle don’t grumble, give a whistle. This’ll help things turn out for the best. Always look on the bright side of life. Always look on the light side of life. Life’s a piece of shit when you look at it, life’s a laugh and death’s a joke it’s true. You’ll see it’s all a show, keep ‘me laughing as you go just remember that the last laugh is on you. So... always look on the bright side of death.

Shit happens.

Deal with it and move on.

Dead is dead. If they don't want to see you - deal with it. If you want to see each other - sort it.

Nothing stays forever
This first case cherish the memories and enjoy it
The second case cherish the memories and let go of the past and live in the present
If you cannot have it why waste so much energy trying it focus your energy on something that you can achieve or makes you happy

There are 6 Billion people on the earth. Surely these two are inconsequential in the big scheme of things. Look for new friends.

I think 1 is more hopeless. Gone is gone. However, with the living - never say never. Circumstances change over time. Memories do not stay the same over time. Feelings do not stay the same over time. Will it be like it was the last time you saw them? No. But it will be different. And different is an opportunity for a different more positive outcome.

I think never seeing someone ever again who is alive is worse.
