-excerpt "..... China isn’t the only country rethinking the value of trees. Latin American countries have vowed to restore 50 million acres of forest, while African countries aim to plant 250 million. Last year, Indian citizens planted a record-breaking 66 million new trees in under 12 hours. England is planting 50 million new trees alongside a high-traffic freeway."

Population and capitalism are taking heavy tolls on the global environment.

Saying 'It's hopeless - money will always win', and doing nothing is a sure way of making sure that it will be hopeless. We can all do our bit, both in planting trees ourselves and lobbying politicians about the environment and climate change. If enough voters contact politicians they take notice.

Love your outlook Celia

@njoy_life_2 I have spent my life trying to change the world for the better but even I am beginning to wonder if it was worthwhile. I take comfort from the fact that my grandchildren are all turning into decent people who will want to do the right thing for the planet.

There is actually a huge future in bio-energy-engineering that would dramatically increase our forested lands and alter what we grow as cash crops. Hemp farms could improve things a lot, hemp is more sustainable for paper production than wood pulp and the hemp oils can be used to make bio diesel. Most tree saps can also be used for ethanol or bio diesel but require the tree to reach a certain level of maturity first.

Give me a break . We are locusts and will strip the place eventually. good luck reversing pollution. the corporations would have to be disbanded. they just want profits at any cost. reel them in and you stand a chance . With the army of lawyers they have [to say nothing of their private security contractors] the chances are microscopic . So enjoy your life . Don't fret

I honestly believe that if the human population continues to increase , the environment is doomed. . This is a problem technology will not solve.

I’m afraid this US isn’t going to do shit for globe warming. The republictards are all climate change deniers. And the ones that admit there is climate change say that it has nothing to do wit what we are doing to the earth. I hate those numb asses they are busy rolling back regulations that will reduce co2 emotions.

It is freaking insane that we have done so little to address the causes of climate change. Future generations will have every right to think of us as selfish monsters.

Sadly the current Government in Australia is more like:
If it moves - shoot it,
If it doesn't move, chop it down, then shoot it,
and if it is in the ground it MUST be dug up and burned.

I don't see the possibility of any improvement without cutting down human population.

Strongly disagree. We can reduce our carbon footprint by 90% if we (collectively) choose to do so.

Exactly right

it's a huge if. we can't even collectively stop hating each other and believing stupid religions
