Oh how I wish I could pack a Purell squirt gun to a wedding I have this weekend. It's 50 people, with 10 of us inside a windowless dome, and 40 right outside the small opening, looking in to witness the event.
A large portion of the guests are known locally to be anti-vaxxers and I don't know about the couple, but I suspect they are too, since they didn't offer any indication when I volunteered that I'm fully vaccinated, and voiced my concern about being indoors with others who might not be.
Of course nobody will be wearing a mask, so I'm going to show up only for my part only and leave immediately after, wearing a mask except for my speaking part which is about 15 minutes.
Weddings bring out the huggy nature of people - I'll need to ward them off somehow - and this squirt gun would be great - haha! I'm laughing, but also severely concerned with this event and have shared my concern with the wedding couple.
I wasn't so concerned when I agreed to it, and it was to be fully outdoors, then it changed to half inside the dome and half out when our case count was steady, now with new restrictions due to a spike in cases, only 10 can be inside, but I still worry with this new information about vaccinated folks can still get and spread this new variant.
I told them this is real for me, as if anyone at the event tests positive at the event (and I plan to be tested 3-5 days after) that we will all have to quarantine, meaning loss of income for those of us who work with people. I'm hoping they will move the ceremony portion to be outdoors, but they have their heart set on having it inside this windowless dome.
Most of my clients are health and safety conscious - but this is a big wedding with no concern for health - and seem to have a "no fear" attitude. To me, fear and wisdom, are inter-changable in this case.
Cough a lot, while "trying hard to conceal it", suddenly you will find yourself a comfy distance from others without trying.....practice at home!
@AnneWimsey Coughing would entail me inhaling first, so I won't be doing that. I'm still trying to make sure my concerns are heard and heeded, so there will be air circulating and space between me and everyone else while I'm maskless talking. Or better yet, if they would just go back to the original idea of having the ceremony portion outdoors or some other solution, during this spike my island is experiencing. They are paying me, but my health and my ability to work in the future is worth more than their money.
