As nobody in my Classic Rock group seems interested in listening to what I consider to be a cracking live performance of Move To Memphis…I thought I’d post it here to try it out on a wider audience …who knows there may be a few Tennesseans out there who could enjoy it!

I'm sorta from Tennessee, really from W. Virginia, though I only lived there a couple of years. We kept ending in Tennessee, that was where my Step Dad was from. After the war, I wound up back in Memphis for a few years, it wasn't all bad. I lived in an apartment building behind Overton Square. The "happening " Place in the late 70s. The origonal "Fridays" was our watering hole and we walked there. I got out in 1980, I was done with the south.

I’ve been to Memphis in song only I’m afraid…either ‘walking in it’ or ‘moving to it’….!

@Marionville You really haven't missed much. It was hopping back in the 70's but what town in the US wasn't?

These guys had a few hits in the 80's. I quite like them. Yes, they are Norwegian. From Norway, in the 90's the Black Metal bands from there were quite popular in the Metal scene (I don't understand why, they all sound pretty much the same to me), from them I only like Demon Burger (it's Dimmu Borgir but I couldn't resist making the joke).

It’s not just about hits in the music business…enduring acts are the ones like a-ha who prefer to perform live. They are still touring and performing to sell out audiences around the world…COVID only disrupting their latest world tour halfway through last March. They are actually one of the most successful live bands in the world…and one of the richest. Their last studio album in 2015 actually sold very well and they brought a live acoustic one out in 2017 too. They performed on the first night of their current disrupted massive world tour in Dublin in October 2019…I saw them on the second night in Belfast.

@Marionville, I know. It's been a while since I've heard from them and it's great to hear they're doing well.

@Paddypereira Yes..they’re still sounding and looking great..Morten Harket will be 62 next month!

@Marionville, most of the best acts I've seen live were veteran bands, with over 20 or even 30 years of career.

@Paddypereira The best acts are even better live than on their recordings…it’s not about perfection it’s about a connection with a live audience and responding to it.

@Marionville, true. I miss live gigs. I hope we'll be able to enjoy them soon.

@Paddypereira Yes..me too. I have tickets to see a-ha again in Oslo which were originally for a concert in November 2020..rescheduled for April this year and when that was cancelled is now rescheduled for a second time for May 2022! Here’s hoping third time proves lucky. My son bought me the tickets as I’d always wanted to see them in concert at their home venue..and he is coming with me…making a short holiday out of the trip. It’ll be great if it does come off!

@Marionville, I was told very well about Oslo. Hopefully the concert will finally go ahead and you get to enjoy it as well as a nice holiday in Oslo.

@Paddypereira Thanks!

I'm not familiar with A-HA. They are apparently famous. Norway? I don't know if they are well known in the USA. The closest to Norwegian rock I can think is Stevie van Zandt's Lilyhammer.

No..sadly they are considered one hit wonders in the USA by the majority…but they are actually one of the most successful bands in the world. They have sold over 100 million music units, recorded a Bond theme, hold 2 Guinness records, have 10 Studio albums & 2 live ones, plus have had many hit records in the U.K., Europe, South America and elsewhere. There are quite a few here on Agnostics who do actually listen to them and enjoy..but the majority don’t appear to even bother, maybe they do and don’t like them, that’s entirely possible. . The reason they are not better known in the USA is because they didn’t want to move to the USA and keep churning out the same type of synth pop music as their first massive hit Take On Me…so their label Warner stopped promoting them in the USA…sadly I believe it’s the USA’s loss. I have posted many different songs by them since I joined Agnostics, they have over 16O original songs to choose from their recordings, and as they are even better live…there are countless live performances too.

Isn’t Stevie Van Zandt American..he’s not Norwegian. I’ve never heard of Lilyhammer, except as a City in Norway where they held the Winter Olympics in 1994 …and a-ha were asked to compose and perform the official song of the Paralympics that year…Shapes That Go Together. They are the most successful music group to ever come out of Norway and have been knighted by the King of Norway for services to Norway, music and the environment.

@Marionville Lilyhammer was a TV show about a gangster who goes into the witness protection program and relocates to Lillehammer, Norway. It stars Steven van Zandt who is an American rock star and an actor. He played Silvio on The Sopranos. I guess I don't follow international music or pop music in general. There are lots of famous American people I've never heard of including most Pop Stars, Rap Artists and Country Music people as well. No offense intended. I'm sure I'd like them as much as I'm sure I'd despise the King of Norway.

@barjoe I guess our transatlantic differences are showing here…I haven’t watched that particular American TV series and you haven’t really been exposed to the music of a-ha.. I get it!

@Marionville It was kind of an obscure show. Have you seen The Sopranos?

@barjoe No…I never watched it, although it was very popular over here. I think it was shown on TV here on one of my choir nights.

@Marionville In UK you could watch all 6 seasons on Hulu or SkyTV. I don't think it's on your Netflix.

@barjoe I’ll probably get round to it some time.
