One for Joe to ponder on.
Russia Japanese war in the 1930's:
The Chinese, Japanese and the Russian (later soviet) empires were in an almost continuous state of war between 1895 and 1945, often with civil wars and revolutions going on at the same time within their individual borders.
Much of it a hold over from the opium wars of 1839–1842 and 1856–1860 and the Taiping Rebellion 1850-1864 and Dungan Revolt 1862–1877 that lead to irresponsible British and French interference in the Asian trade, the weakening of the Qing dynasty and the Chinese imperial government making opportunist war almost inevitable.
