No, it is a taught behavior. Perfectly understandable within the delusion that religion promotes. I don’t see it as inherently bad. For example, it can promote positive movement towards an outcome simply by envisioning it. Beyond that, it’s just a waste of time.
Oh, and I suppose you could use it to attract the attention of the cute blond in the next pew….not that I would know of such things
I am inclined to consider prayer as being essentially no different from fantasy, no more effective than wishful thinking. Of course, if the believer's pray is not granted then he/she will say that it is god's will. Seems that self deception knows no limits...

@TheMiddleWay what about those folks that pray before they leave and they get hit head on by a semi that kills them and two of their three kids like happened here last week.
I pronounced the two girls dead and the little boy is still alive but is unlikely to make it.
Should her husband thank god for that too?
