That I would need to use Algebra in my daily life.

That punishment is a necessary part of discipline

The pledge of allegiance. Especially "... with liberty and justice for all"

That the Civil War was over slavery, it was more about economies of South vs. North and vise versa, the by product was the Emancipation Proclamation , which was issued to get slaves to fight for the North. It is the best war we were ever in as it righted a wrong that was endured for centuries by people.

Just about all history!

The biggest lie...hard work and honesty pay off..maybe in the old America.

The biggest lie I was taught was that the US is the greatest country on the planet, and we're always the good guys who do the right thing

Lots of lies....

Columbus discovered America (never mind about hte vikings,or the people who were already in America)

George Washington chopped down a cherry tree (never really happened).

The biggest lie though was "Taxation without representation", in the sense that it was never really explained. The reality was that the East India Company (often referred to at the time as "the Company" of "The Corporation" ) was granted a royal monopoly and wasn't taxed, whiel small business men were heavily taxed, not too different from how small business peopel today pay higher taxes than large corporations. Yet in the colonies, the small business people who paid taxes were not represented in England, while the large mega-corporation was well represented. Much like today how large corporations are better represented than the small business person or workers. They lied about it because they wanted to create a similar situation to what the colonists experienced where only wealth was (well) represented in America, and htey have been doing it mostly through the republican party, but the democrats are nto totally innocent either.

That is misleading to some extent... The purpose of school is not to lie but to help individuals to learn and develop habits to become self directed as far as being productive, useful and to keep learning as the person moves forward in life. The other side of the story is that teachers and schools cannot teach to whom doesn't want to learn... You asked, well there it is

Unfortunately they teach conformity not critical thinking. I had teachers admit that parts of the curriculum were wrong but I would have to write the prescribed answer if I wished to pass. And do you mean you are OK with Creationism being taught as science.
There is an awful lot of what passes for history that is simply propaganda or urban myths. In primary school a friend was always in trouble for writing 1.0 rather than 1 when adding
0.9 + 0.1, in highschool you get in trouble for not writing it. I did well at school because I could keep both the truth and the required lie in my head simultaneously.

@Kimba understand... I am glass half full type of person. Every school year was exercise for my brain muscles. That's what I have encoraged my kids to do and they are doing their best developing their own skills as opposed to spend time fighting the process...... Then again, its a personal choice

That I need to learn math because you won't always have a calculator. Thank goodness for smart phones! Take that Mr. Brinkman!

id never get anywhere in life without doing better at school. I beat my art teacher in an art competition well after I left school lol and I'm self-taught.

That I'll need this in the real world

I was taught that being overly nice to girls, doing things for them, helping them with homework and giving gifts to them would all help them to like me. It obviously didn't work LOL!!

Didn't figure out the real truth until only about 10 years ago..

Numbers never lie!

You know about statistics then. LOL

@Kimba Yes and maths dyslexia lol !!!! They lie to quite a few people! It's a myth haha!!

Never though of stats but again that is massive. Probably the biggest!

2

That people in general are Just and Kind. I see now that, while there are a great many people who think they are just and kind, they are pretty dang far from it.

But there is that assumed 'moral superiority' thing again, which is another concept we were taught in school, that I now see as being total BS.

My own is most likely that there are only three states of matter. Are they still telling kids this nonsense?

Kimba Level 7 Apr 24, 2018

I think they are! Also history is another wormhole of nonsense hey!
