To birth a female child, the egg cell of a woman only needs to be fertilized by a sperm containing the X chromosome to make XX which is the female gender determinant.
Whereas to birth a male child, the egg cell of woman needs to be fertilized by a sperm containing the Y chromosome to make XY which is the male gender determinant.
