Greetings y'all, this my first post.

I'm often asked weather I've lost family/friends over being an atheist. My response is that I would lose everyone if I were open about my atheism. I'm not ashamed to be atheist, but the loss will be great!

Please be sensitive to others and don't assume they're insecure or frail. It takes a lot of patience and resilience to lead two separates li(v)es.

Sooner or later your secret will be exposed. Strengthen yourself (self-help books, like minded friends) and be prepared for the change. We all go through recognized changes -- a birth, death, marriage, moving to a new residence, starting or loosing a job. People come and go as well. While it can be hard, embrace change -- look at it as a new adventure life. Family is harder. Keep a stiff upper lip (whatever that means). Look up 'Desirdarata' on the internet -- a prayer / poem that I have always liked -- And being on this site, 'whatever I conceive him to be' is obvious.

Yes it does; and my sincere, best hopes for your future.

Start building as much of a face-to-face social network around you as possible that doesn't hinge on a belief you no longer hold. Also, get yourself as self-reliant as you can.

Be strong because you are right and you chose the right way.
We support each other, we follow our humanity not what our parents taught us.

I have been in a very privileged situation, my parents are communist, so they are atheists, so my family is atheist... but my grandparents were catholics. even that with the support of my parents, my sister and I weren't forced to go to church or rubbish like that. So not sure what can you do to avoid the conflict.
