"Game-Changing Study Finds Dozens of Genes Tied to Depression

Scientists have uncovered dozens of genes that increase the risk of depression, a major finding that underscores the complexity of the disease and reveals why antidepressant therapies work well for some people but are utterly ineffective for others.

A global consortium of more than 200 scientists identified 44 gene variants, or small changes in genes, each one contributing in some small way to a person's risk of depression. Thirty of the gene variants had not been identified in any previous study."

Beyond the genes is another reality of depression which the psychological community ignores and simply tries to medicate away.
Existential Depression.
IF the reason you are depressed is utter dissatisfaction in life; you hate you job, you have your commute, your are weighed down by debt and so forth
THEN you have causes, real world, real life causes which are making you feel depressed about your state of affairs.
NOT an internal psychological issue at all
NOT a chemical imbalance
NOT a gene issue

A life issue. If society has become such that MANY people have existential Depression, medication won't ever fix the problem, only activism or revolution will.

I'm one who often has opposite reactions to drugs, so they no longer try that with me. However, whatever the reason for depression, I found talking to someone I've found safe helps. It takes time, sometimes years and years of talking. Or at least for me. I was diagnosed with PTSD due to my daughter's mistaken diagnosis and cavalier treatment by doctors and while I am not entirely agreeable with that term applied to me, having a sounding board is a substantial part of while I'm still here and have built a life beyond that past.

Interesting. I was on antidepressants for a couple of years in the 90's, and they were effective for me.

I think found some of these earlier in my life!
